“Nepal Day 2025” Celebrated for the First Time in Fair Lawn, New Jersey

New Jersey – The Nepali community in New Jersey celebrated its first Nepal Day with great pride and joy on Saturday, May 31st. The event was organized to promote Nepal’s identity, art, culture, and tourism in the United States.
Held in the town of Fair Lawn, the event brought together hundreds of Nepalis and Nepali-Americans from across New Jersey and New York. The celebration was filled with music, dance, food, and traditional displays, reflecting the beauty and diversity of Nepal.
The program began with a special inauguration by His Excellency Lok Bahadur Thapa, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He was joined by Fair Lawn Deputy Mayor Josh Reinitz, who warmly welcomed the Nepali community.
Ambassador Thapa praised the event, saying:
“Nepal Day is not just a celebration of culture. It is a bridge that connects Nepalis abroad with their roots, and helps introduce Nepal to the world.”
The venue was decorated with banners of famous places in Nepal. Stalls lined the walls offering everything from Nepali food, such as Momo and Sel Roti, to traditional dresses and handicraft items. Visitors enjoyed a series of cultural performances, including traditional dances and songs from different ethnic communities.
Nepal Day was organized through the joint effort of several community groups, including:
- Greater Jersey Nepali Samaj
- New Jersey Nepali Samaj
- NRNA USA New Jersey Chapter
- ARC for Nepal
- Women for Cause
- Friends of Nepal NJ
- Nepal Tourism Board (New York Office)
- Federation of Indigenous Peoples of Nepal in America
- DJ Jangbo Sherpa
- And other local organizations
The event was chaired by Rajendra Shrestha, directed by Sanjeev Shrestha, and convened by Satendra Shah. They expressed deep thanks to all volunteers, partners, and local leaders who supported the event.
“This is only the beginning,” said Chairperson Shrestha. “Nepal Day will now be an annual tradition in New Jersey.”
The event was co-hosted by Miss Nepal International 2012 Subeksha Khadka and well-known media personality Bicky Pulami. Performances by talented local artists received enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
More than just a celebration, Nepal Day became a moment of pride, unity, and connection for the Nepali community abroad, a reminder of their roots and their shared responsibility to promote Nepal globally.
